For the Q1 2026 class, we covered a series of German masters that have buckler material. For each new source we took a brief look at the context in which it was written to better understand the material that was presented and why. We covered Paulus Kal, Andre Lignitzer, Hector Mair, Hans Talhoffer, Heinrich von Gunterrodt and ended with 1.33. By analyzing the sources like Liechtenauer, Meyer, Speyer Codex and Leckuchner we set the ground-work for the sword by itself and how to incorporate a buckler as a sidearm. This was a different take compared to the Foundations 1.33 class I taught in 2025. This year we focused a little more on utilizing the different cuts and handworks later German sources teach.

The quarter went by fast! Time flies when you are having fun!

Until next time!
