The St. Paul Freifechter is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Historical Martial Arts organization dedicated to the in-depth study and safe practice of Historical Martial Arts for both Sport (Fencing) and Martial (Combat) applications, including the historical and social contexts for their usage.
Yes, you read that correctly – We are basically a Non-Profit dedicated to sword fighting…..sort of.
It’s not just about picking up a sword and learning how to use it. It’s also about learning how to do this safely.
Other key goals are:
- Foster a strong sense of community by including, respecting, and valuing the participation and input of each person regardless of skill, experience, knowledge, or ability.
- To instill a desire for more in-depth study of the historical contexts of the very skills we’re learning to practice – i.e., the social legal, and ethical aspects and constraints surrounding their use.
That said, being a Non-Profit also sets us apart from the other organizations that do something similar as we’re not driven by a profit motive. Any funds we bring in are used to cover operational expenses or are invested in equipment, resources, and training opportunities for our members, the HMA/HEMA community, and the general public.
If you’re interested in supporting us in these endeavors, there’s a few ways you can do so:
- Make a donation – every penny that comes in can help drive our mission a little bit further forward – Donation info page
- Attend one of our classes, workshops, or events – Calendar
- Become a member of the St Paul Freifechter organization – Membership Page
